Studies show that 3.5 billion pounds of carpet waste end up in a U.S. landfill on a yearly basis. Carpet tiles, on average, take 20,000 years to disintegrate. With the increasing popularity of carpet tile, the need to keep it out of the landfills will continue to grow. As the ever decreasing space in landfills is examined more and more closely, the cost to dispose of this type of waste will rise. These factors are dictating the necessity of diverting carpet tiles from landfills.

OPT3 Carpet Tile Recycling was introduced in 2003 after years of research and development and because of the desire to have a positive impact on the environment. To date, OPT3 Carpet Tile Recycling has diverted over 2 million pounds of carpet tile from going to the landfill. With the capacity to process millions of pounds of carpet tile annually, OPT3 will continue to have a significant environmental effect and provide you with an efficient, easy and cost-effective way to dispose of and recycle carpet tiles.

The biggest problem with recycling carpet is cost. Traditionally, it has been cheaper to put it in a landfill than to recycle...until the introduction of Opt3 Carpet Tile Recycling. It's as easy as
1, 2, 3...
    (1) Register your project with OPT3: choose from the Carpet Tile Recovery
          or Carpet Tile Recycling programs.
    (2) Upon submittal, an OPT3 representative will call or email you with details.
    (3) Material is shipped back to OPT3 for processing.
The carpet tile is recovered for reuse or processed into carpet backing systems, components for building materials, car parts, and *alternative fuel source. A recycling certificate and documentation is sent to you shortly after we receive the carpet tiles. *Products that cannot be recycled are sent to a burn-to-energy plant for use as an alternative fuel source. At present, this represents less than 5% of carpet tile processed.
